HOW TO PROMOTE YOUR MUSIC ON YOUTUBE
Do you want to promote your newly released music video on YouTube. You’ll have to fight the public’s preconceived notion that three minutes of their time is just too valuable to haphazardly give it to you, an unknown entity. So, you’ll have to convince each stranger to willingly give up that precious three minutes time slot to listen and watch your music video. To truly promote your music on YouTube, you’ll need to take full advantage of several steps: Start Your Own YouTube Channel showcasing your music and other similar artists; Introduce yourself to already established music curators with successful music channels; Create a Playlist; and Setup a Google AdWords Account (Google owns YouTube),
You’ll have to start with the basics. First, start a YouTube Channel. Next, get acquainted with those that play your type of music and have already built up a large following on YouTube. After, you take the time to survey the landscape of the industry you’re entering, you’ll be better equipped to compete for standing amongst your peers. If you really want to gain influence in the world of YouTube, you have to focus on well-established influencers, until you become one yourself. Imagine being like Kim Kardashian, Justin Bieber, and Beyonce with well over 200 million combined followers on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter. Many music lovers started sharing the sounds they were excited about and over the years transformed their love into a money-making venture. Now, many of these music lovers are the curators and promoters of their own music channels and partly responsible for launching careers. As a new artist with a newly released music video, you need to network with these music lovers so that they will include your videos in their lineup of artists introducing you to their established followers.
After starting your own channel, create a playlist and promote already popular artists in your genre. Naturally, your music will appear in this lineup as well. Over time, you may gain a following that will be impressed with your musical tastes, but until you do this will expose you to the well-established music channel curators. Now, its time to contact those curators and see if they’ll be willing to include your music. If one of these curators chooses your music, you may be well on your way to taking off, but if several of these curators select several of your songs, you could have consistent access to YouTube fame.
Another way to promote your music on YouTube is to place an ad on YouTube to be viewed on a popular music video. In other words, buy an ad to be placed on YouTube with a music video that is similar to yours by another artist who already has a following. The first step you should take is get on YouTube. Establish a YouTube Channel where you’ll display your music videos. But, before you do that, make sure you have released your single, or album.
To run ads or clips of your video inside other popular videos, you must setup a google AdWords account. The first screen you’ll see is Overview page. To the left you’ll see to columns. Select the second column’s campaigns tab and then the plus tab just beneath it. Then, click, “New Campaign”. At this point, you’ll select the type of campaign you’re running. Select, “Brand awareness and reach”. After selecting this, you’ll be asked to choose display or video. Select video. Next, you’ll need to select a campaign sub-type. You’ll choose “Skippable in-stream”, which means it will start before the video that features your ad. The viewer has the choice to skip the video after it plays for 5 seconds, but they can watch up to 2 minutes long, so your actual video may play the whole video if is only a couple of minutes long. “Bumper” ads appear in the middle of videos that are more than eight minutes in length and “non-skippable in-stream” ads are not skippable but they can only be 15 seconds in length. So, the best choice among the top three selections, is “Skippable in-stream”.
Next, you’ll pick a Campaign Name. That will usually entail using the name of the song or the album. “Bid Strategy” involves the amount of money you want to spend on the campaign and the duration or time limit for the ad to run. Your target CPM means the costs per 1,000 impressions or views. This is preset, so skip to the next choice, which is the Budget. What is your daily budget? What can you afford to spend? Name any amount from $5 to $1,000. Always select an end date, so your campaign definitely comes to an end within a set time frame. You need to choose the Networks the video will be displayed on. YouTube is already selected, but “Video partners on the Display Network” may also be chosen. Deselect it if you don’t want it. Locations is next, “All countries and territories”, “Canada”, and “Enter another Location” are your choices. Usually, you’ll select all countries and territories.
Communicate the release to fans on all your social media accounts: Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Soundcloud, Twitch, Reddit, Musically, and YouTube. Be sure to include a short clip of an exciting excerpt from the video in the social media notices. You’ll want to constantly stirrup interest in the video, so whenever and wherever you can add a teaser of the video. Next, is “Languages”. You should allow the “All Languages” tab to override. For “Ad Group Name”, enter the song title again. Usually, its OK to skip “Demographics”, “Audiences”, “Keywords”, and “Topics”. The Next place where you’ll enter data is in “Placements”. This is where you will select the videos where you’d like to see the video clip you will be placing as an ad. Under the tab, select your placement targeting, choose artists that are good matches to your music’s genre. This could easily lead to your being discovered by a potential fan. Type in the name of the artist’s videos you want to place ads. Both YouTube Channels and YouTube Videos will appear as choices. You will get picks from both if the artist has them. The channel number will appear as well as the videos. You will see a full listing of all the channels and videos that the artist has. Select the ones you want your ad to appear on.
Next, is Bidding. Pick a number as low as 50 cents for your Target CPM bid and click on the “Top Content bid adjustment”. This is required if there is a lot of competition for the advertising slot. The percentage increase will have to be accepted if it appears. If you are willing to match the increase, the ad will run. Finally, paste in the URL for your video to be used in your advertisement. You can see what the ad would look like on a mobile device or a desktop. If you are happy with everything, click, CONTINUE TO CAMPAIGN.
